Could He Be Glutened?

I've been taking a blog break, but I have a question to the people that have been diagnosed with celiac disease.

Upon diagnosis with celiac disease, Andrew never showed one sign of having it.  In the past couple of days, he's been experiencing cramping, queasy, gas, diarrhea, oil floating on water in toilet.  Sorry for the gross description, but it's something that goes along with celiac.

How in the world am I supposed to know when he's glutened versus a stomach bug?

The gastroenterologist retested his antibodies last month and unfortunately he was higher than when he started.  He told me to not panic because it does take time for the antibodies to go down.  This was only 3 months after being on a gluten free diet.

The gastro. also explained to me that Andrew would eventually show signs of being glutened even if he hadn't in the beginning.

So, my question goes out to all celiacs.  What happens to you when you get glutened?

  1. I didn't have any symptoms before and still haven't had any, despite intentional gluten ingestion.

My daughter had HORRIBLE tummy aches pre-dx. Just the other night, we went to the ER, because her tummy started hurting so badly. I can't help but to suspect that she had been contaminated somehow.

I think it's very individualized.....and that just makes it so much harder :(

I hope he feels better soon.

    Prayers for you, my friend.
