The Next Step?

Is it just me or have some of you had trouble figuring out diabetes abbreviations?   I think it took me a month to figure out PWD.  Ok....I now know that means people with diabetes.  Let's just say that I'm a slow learner.

I read a post the other day regarding a CGM.  I believe it is called Dexcom???  Anyway, I finally figured out that it was a continuous glucose monitor.  "WOW!", I thought what a great idea.

Andrew's numbers have crept up slightly, but no need for immediate concern yet.  I know that lack of exercise the past couple of days could definitely be contributing.  One thing that I've been concerned with since going off insulin is how high he could be spiking between meals.  I checked an hour after we ate at Olive Garden the other night and he was at 184.  Granted he did drop to 125 before bedtime, but I still don't know if 184 was the peak.

After reading the post on CGM, I contacted our endocrinologist to see if that could be an option for a child in a diabetic honeymoon.  As I'm waiting for her return call, I thought I'd send a post out to my diabetes knowledge base - The Awesome D-MOMS!!!!!  If you use a CGM, can you please let me know which one you use and how you like it.  The endo. office had mentioned an Ipro.  This is completely new to me, and I'd love to have your input before I talk with her.

  3. Hey...I have clicked on your "profile" pic several times over the last few weeks and it won't take me to your blog-site...do you have it "locked down" or something? Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Anyway...Great blog, Great Header...and getting all the lingo takes a few months. It took me longer as I am not the brightest bulb in this crew for sure! Good to "meet" you!

  5. I wondered the same thing as Reyna. Glad it's all cleared up!
If you read our blog, I talk about Dexcom all the time, so you probably know that's what we use. It seems like everyone is starting to get them now. It's like a big peak. Even people who have had diabetes for awhile are suddenly being turned on to them. Maybe all this more sudden interest in cgms will make the technology on them better soon...even with the flaws, though, better to have one than not to have one.

  6. Hi Roselady,
I'm really bummed because the endo. said that they only use cgm on diabetics that have low blood sugar (less than 50). She said this would not be a good fit for us. What do you girls think? I'm wondering if I should look for a 2nd opinion?

  7. Yep...second opinion for SURE! That is not the case. They are using CGMS everywhere for children and adults of all ages. I am glad you aren't "locked-up" any longer :)
