Gluten Free at Olive Garden

Once Andrew was diagnosed with celiac disease, we really thought that our days of eating out were over.  I became quickly depressed thinking of cooking 3 meals + 2 snacks every day 24/7.

I began slowly researching all of our favorite restaurants on the internet to see if they offered gluten free.  When I came across Olive Garden, I thought there is NO way that you could prevent cross contamination when cooking pasta.

I decided to call and speak to the manager.  He responded that the gluten free pasta and sauce comes in its own microwavable container AND it's own spoon to put it on the plate.  WOW!!!  I was so excited that we went that very night.  The server brought us a salad without croutons (Andrew doesn't eat salad, but it was a nice gesture).  I ordered him the gluten free pasta, steamed broccolli and iced tea.  When he was done eating, he had such a look of contenment on his face.  That was worth it's weight in gold for me!

  3. Thanks for your comment on my blog, and the encouraging words. The last few days have been a little better with very few mentions of diabetes... it just seems to ebb and flow with her.

I'm amazed at your story, two rather life-changing dx's back-to-back. As if diabetes isn't enough. Glad you've found a place you can eat out at. I don't know if you have PF Cheng's in your area, but I believe they're gluten-free too (as well as Pei Wei, their less-expensive brand).
